How A Mini-Split Ductless Air Conditioning System Works
A mini-split ductless air conditioning system has similar components to a central AC system. An outside cabinet houses the compressor and condenser, and an inside unit houses the air handler and evaporator coil. A conduit pipe connects the two units via a hole drilled through the wall. The inside unit hangs on the wall and serves as both the vent to deliver cold air and the return to draw warm air back into the system, and vice versa in cool weather.
This type of system is designed to heat and cool individual rooms or zones, not an entire house. It’s generally considered an ‘add-on’ system.
